City Information
Elgin is located 38 miles from downtown Chicago and about 14 miles west of O’Hare International Airport. The city of Elgin was founded in 1835 and lies mostly in Kane county with the northeast section in Cook county. Elgin was incorporated in 1854 and was the largest provider of butter and dairy products to the city of Chicago. Between 1880 and 1910 Elgin was the biggest dairy town in the Midwest. As a result. In the years since Elgin has grown into the eigth largest city in Illinois.

Third, is Advocate Sherman Hosptital with 1724 employees and fourth, is Elgin Community College with 1396 employees. In addition to various employment opportunities the city of Elgin lies along the Fox River with many bike and hiking trails, nature centers and a forest preserve.
