Schaumburg is the second largest suburban business destination in Illinois outside of Chicago. Furthermore, Schaumburg is located 30 miles from downtown Chicago and about 11 miles west of O’Hare International Airport. Over the past 60 years, thoughtful planning has reshaped Schaumburg from a small farming community. As a result, Schaumburg has become a thriving economic center. The Village of Schaumburg was incorporated on March 7th, 1956.

However, the heritage of Schaumburg dates back much further. Schaumburg was a small community of German immigrants dating back well before 1850 when the name Schaumburg was declared. Previously, the first people living in the territory were members of the Sauk, Fox, Pottawatomie as well as the Kickapoo Native American civalizations. However, much time has passed and Schaumburg has become a population center in northwestern Cook county. Presently, Schaumburgs 10-year population growth rate is 6.1% which is higher than a vast majority of communities in Chicago’s suburbs.

First, Woodfield Mall is the largest employer within the village of Schaumburg with 4200 employees. Second, School district 54 with 2254 employees. Third, Zurich North America Insurance company with 1940 employees. Fourth, Perdoceo Education Corporation with 1435 employees. Fifth, is Paylocity a software development company with 1,250 employees. In addition to employment opportunites Schaumburg is home to 9 industrial parks providing warehousing and light industrial busineses providing area employment.
